Payaroba Bridge Closed Completely: Binjai City Government Deploys Traffic Diversion Schemes

BINJAI
 — To ensure public safety and accelerate essential infrastructure restoration, the Binjai City Government has officially enforced a total closure of the Payaroba Bridge in West Binjai District.

The closure is part of a comprehensive reconstruction project aimed at repairing structural vulnerabilities and improving road safety along the busy commuter corridor. In response to the temporary shutdown, local authorities have mapped out alternative traffic routes to prevent heavy congestion across key urban access points.

The Binjai Transportation Agency (Dinas Perhubungan) alongside the local traffic police unit (Satlantas Polres Binjai) have coordinated the deployment of officers and clear directional signage to guide motorists through designated detour routes.

Under the newly established traffic scheme, light vehicles, two-wheelers, and public transport units previously crossing the Payaroba Bridge are being rerouted through adjacent residential and arterial corridors. Heavy freight vehicles and multi-axle trucks are strictly advised to utilize main bypass roads to reduce strain on secondary inner-city networks.

Officials emphasized that public compliance with traffic instructions will be crucial during peak commuting hours, particularly in the mornings and late afternoons when traffic volume spikes significantly.

City officials noted that the structural condition of the Payaroba Bridge rendered partial lane operations unsafe, necessitating a total temporary closure. The construction team is focusing on reinforced structural supports to handle higher load capacities upon reopening.

"We urge residents and commuters to stay patient and remain vigilant while traveling along the designated detour routes. This temporary disruption is necessary to ensure long-term structural safety and smoother connectivity for all Binjai residents," a municipal traffic representative stated.

The Payaroba Bridge serves as a vital arterial link connecting West Binjai with neighboring suburban districts and rural trade routes leading toward Langkat Regency. As a primary conduit for agricultural goods, daily commuters, and local logistics, the bridge’s structural upgrade is considered a priority project within Binjai's regional infrastructure master plan.

Infrastructure maintenance in dense municipal sectors requires a balanced approach between construction speed and urban mobility. To minimize economic bottlenecks caused by the closure, the Binjai City Government is utilizing real-time traffic monitoring along alternate paths, enabling field teams to adjust traffic light timing and clear bottlenecks dynamically throughout the construction period.
