Strong Winds Collapse Resident's House in Batu Bara, Family Appeals for Urgent Aid

BATU BARA – Severe weather struck Dusun V, Perupuk Village, Limapuluh Pesisir District, Batu Bara Regency, North Sumatra, leaving a local resident's home severely damaged after being hit by strong winds overnight.

The victim, Amri, along with his family, faced a sudden disaster when high-velocity wind gusts battered the area, structural damage causing parts of the residence to collapse.

The unexpected tragedy has left the family struggling to cope with the aftermath. The house, which served as their main shelter and center for daily routines, is now unsafe to inhabit.

Following the incident, Amri and his family have been attempting temporary, independent repairs using whatever limited resources they have at hand. However, due to financial constraints, rebuilding the damaged structure on their own remains a major challenge.

"We are doing what we can for temporary emergency repairs, but our resources are very limited. We sincerely hope for attention and help from the local government and compassionate communities," Amri stated when describing his situation.

The disaster highlights the ongoing vulnerability of coastal communities in Batu Bara Regency to sudden extreme weather events, emphasizing the critical need for solidarity and rapid community response.

Amri and his family hope that relevant municipal and emergency management agencies will conduct an immediate field inspection to evaluate the extent of the damage and provide needed assistance. Furthermore, they are appealing to social organizations, local donors, and generous citizens for any form of relief to help them reconstruct their home safely.

According to weather forecasts issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region I Medan, coastal areas along the eastern coast of North Sumatra—including Batu Bara Regency—are currently experiencing unpredictable weather shifts characterized by sudden convective thunderstorms and strong wind squalls. Residents living in vulnerable structures or open coastal zones are urged to remain vigilant.

Local disaster mitigation officials (BPBD Batu Bara) and local police sector officers (Polsek Lima Puluh) are routinely coordinating to inspect disaster-affected points throughout the district. In similar recent incidents across the regency, local authorities and police departments have stepped in to distribute basic food supplies (sembako) and emergency tarpaulins as an immediate relief measure for affected families while awaiting formal reconstruction assistance.
